Profile

The Center for Health Policy and Management (CHPM) is committed to developing practical evidence-based policy and management solutions to our nation’s most pressing health system challenges. CHPM was initially established as the Center for Health Service Management on 5 February 1998. The Center at the time builds on the growing experience and expertise in health services research and training at the Faculty of Medicine UGM. In March 2013, the name changed to the Center for Health Policy and Management to better reflect the growing activities on health policy. CHPM strives to become an internationally recognized center of excellence in health policy and management.

To achieve its vision, CHPM conduct research that lays the foundation for better health policy and management. In addition to answering important Profile research questions, CHPM analyse critical health system problems to identify practical strategies for improving health and health care. We also promote interaction among leading researchers, clinicians, healthcare executives, policy makers and members of the public by hosting seminars, lectures and roundtables. These forums provide vital opportunities for the health policy community in Indonesia to share ideas and expertise. Complementing the centers’ academic expertise is the in-depth knowledge of affiliates from health service organizations and other academic institutions. Affiliated university researchers and outside experts from Indonesia and abroad collaborate with CHPM researchers on projects, providing valuable perspective on current
healthcare issues.

CHPM currently manages four divisions:

  1. Public health policy and program management;
  2. Hospital management;
  3. Quality management;
  4. Disaster management.

In 2016, CHPM is preparing to establish a new division on health information system. The director, secretary,heads of division and operational managermeet regularly to coordinate projects and otheractivities. The quality management system ofCHPM is certified for ISO 9001: 2008. A boardconsisting of the Vice Dean, heads of associated department and experts provide strategic adviceto CHPM.

CHPM works closely with the National Planning Bureau, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Home Affairs, Provincial Governments, DistrictGovernments as well as public and privatehospitals. CHPM also work with a wide range of associations related to health policy and management such as district hospital association, the Indonesian hospital association, private hospital association, provincial/district health office association.

CHPM also has many years of experiences working with international organizations such as the World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), European Union (EU), Asian development Bank (ADB), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), GTZ/GIZ, AusAID/DFAT. Currently CHPM leads the Indonesian Health Policy Network, which brings together prominent universities across Indonesia to collaborate on health policy issues. CHPM also actively promote knowledge dissemination by publishing policy briefs, the Indonesian Health Service Management journal, the Indonesian Health Policy Journal and managing numerous websites dedicated to specific health policy and management issues.
