Realizing INA-Stent which Made by Indonesian

FM-UGM. According to WHO, estimated in 2005 17.5 million people around the world will die caused cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease contributed 1/3 global death. Currently, all ages have a risk to get cardiovascular disease including children, and 80% of the burden of disease cardiovascular is a low and middle-income country. In Indonesia as well as in the world, cardiovascular disease is still the number one killer. In America, as many as 1.2 million people have myocardial infarction every year and approximately 1/3 of these are acute myocardial infarction with ST (IMA-EST) elevation. Moreover, International Cardiovascular Disease Statistics 2008 update said that in 2020, cardiovascular and stroke disease will be the second killer around the world, with the number of fatalities more increase from 23,4 million.

That fact was stated by Prof. Dr. Budi Yuli Setianto, Sp.PD-KKV, Sp.JP (K) in a speech of inauguration Professor Faculty of Medicine in Senate Hall of Universitas Gadjah Mada (17/5). Generally, the speech is about “Interventional Cardiology Services in the Universal health Coverage: Challenges & Opportunities.”
Intervention Cardiology services are service in the form of an action or non-invasive percutaneous invasive procedure in the catheterization laboratory which performed by a specialist in the heart and blood vessels. Many actions that can be done in the field of interventional cardiology include angiography and angioplasty or percutaneous coronary intervention with or without stent insertion of coronary, peripheral and cerebral vessels. Furthermore, percutaneous coronary intervention is the most prevalent cardiology intervention service in hospitals equipped with catheterization laboratory facilities. The common percutaneous coronary intervention procedure is to dilate coronary blood vessels using balloons or stents.

In his speech delivered that one of the strategic plans in the year 2017-2020 is to realize the dream of INA-Stent as a downstream of UGM research results in the form of the quality stent at affordable prices by the society. “The most important is made in the country by the young generation of the nation itself,” said the husband of dr. Currently, the stents in the market are import stents with varying prices, for Bare Metal Stents (BMS) of approximately 4.4 million rupiahs, while the Drug Eluting Stent (DES) ranges from approximately 6.4 million to 7.7 million rupiahs. As an illustration, the use of stents in one year around 1st January 1 till 31st December 2017 in the catheterization laboratory of RSUP Dr. Sardjito is 1,104 pieces which consisting of BMS 45 pieces and DES 1,059 pieces for a total cost of approximately 7.6 billion. “Thus, we can calculate how much earnings obtained when the INA-Stent is realized,” said Chairman of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiovascular FK UGM.
