IMG_6373-1Professor Stephen Graham is a Paediatrician with more than 20 years’ experience in international child health in developing countries such as in African and Asia-Pacific regions. His working interests including childhood respiratory diseases such as TB and pneumonia in developing countries. He is the leader of International Child Health Group at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, the University of Melbourne, Australia and current chair of the Child Tuberculosis (TB) subgroup of World Health Organization (WHO) Stop TB Partnership. He is also member of the Strategic Technical Advisory Group on TB for the WHO, Wellcome Trust, UK, and National Institutes of Health, USA. He has been the recipient of multiple prestigious research grants such as NHMRC and USAID and has published hundreds of peer-reviewed journals.

Yogyakarta – Anak dan remaja adalah generasi emas sumber daya manusia masa depan suatu bangsa sehingga kesehatan mental anak dan remaja sangatlah penting. Penelitian epidemiologi mengindikasikan tiga sampai empat remaja masuk kriteria DSM (Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders), dan satu dari sepuluh remaja diperkirakan mengalami gangguan emosional serius atau Serious Emotional Disturbance (SRD). Kurang dari separuhnya menerima perawatan khusus kesehatan mental, dan masalah kesehatan mental ini memiliki dampak drastis pada kemampuan seorang anak baik secara sosial, akademis, dan emosional. Gangguan kecemasan adalah kondisi yang paling sering dialami oleh anak-anak, diikuti oleh gangguan perilaku, suasana hati, dan penggunaan narkoba. Kondisi ini diperparah dengan stigma dan diskriminasi yang disandangkan pada para remaja dengan gangguan mental. Dengan masih terbatasnya psikiater anak dan remaja maka kebijakan kesehatan mental menjadi krusial.
